The diet soup is supposed to be a 7-day weight loss programme.
It was rumoured that this cabbage soup recipe was invented by a hospital to help their patients lose weight quickly before their surgical operations. Not sure if this is true.
The diet is aimed at quick weight loss and is not meant as a long term weight loss strategy.
Ingredients
6 big onions
2 green bell peppers
2 tomatoes
1 stalk celery
Half a round cabbage
1 litre soup stock
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- Cut the onions, bell peppers, tomatoes into small cubes
- Cut the celery into small sections
- Chop up the cabbage
- Bring the soup stock to a boil and add all the chopped cabbage
- Cook the cabbage for 20 minutes or more until soft before adding the rest of the vegetables
- Take time to cook the cabbage as they become sweeter when they are cooked for a longer period of time
- Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving

Varying the diet soup
Drinking the same soup for 7 days can be boring and unexciting. A suggestion is to supplement the diet soup with some complimentary ingredients.
Here is a suggestion for a meal:
Day 1: Cabbage soup
Day 2: Cabbage soup + a baked potato with a bit of butter
Day 3: Cabbage soup + fruits
Day 4: Cabbage soup + 6 bananas and a skimmed milk
Day 5: Cabbage soup + 6 tomatoes and 450g lean meat or fish
Day 6: Cabbage soup + 450g lean beef and steamed greens
Day 7: Cabbage soup + multi-grains, fresh fruit juice and steamed greens
No bread, soft drinks or alcoholic drinks during these 7 days.
