汤之魔术
The Magic of Homemade Chinese Soups

delicious and nutritious
created in the humble home kitchen

Dear soup lovers,

Welcome to the homemade chinese soups website!

Many chinese restaurants serve wonderful luxurious chinese soups such as shark fin soup and Buddha jumps over the wall using expensive ingredients and elaborate cooking techniques. When they are served, they are both a feast for the eyes and for the stomach.

A gastronomical experience indeed!

But magical experiences with chinese soups happen in the humble home kitchen. Made at home, with simple inexpensive ingredients, using simple cooking methods, using simple cooking utensils. Served piping hot, with love.

That's MAGICAL!

About me

me
Hi, my name is Phoebe and I live in Singapore.

Singapore is a small tropical island republic at the tip of the Malay peninsula. We are not part of China although there are many chinese here.

We are a small independent state in Southeast Asia. Visit Uniquely Singapore to find out more about my home country.

My grandfather came from the Fujian province in south China a long time ago. I was born in Singapore and lived here all my life.

Like many Singaporean Chinese, I grew up with chinese soups at the dining table. It is such a common sight that for many years chinese soups were just part of the meal. Nothing special.

When I am younger, I enjoyed food that are fried, oilier and saltier. As I grew older, I am more appreciative of the goodness of chinese soups.

Not only do they taste great, they are beneficial to health. They have more micro nutrients, less oil, less salt, and are easier on the digestive system.

I have chinese soups whenever I am home for dinner because my grandmother makes them for me. You can say I've rediscovered the magic of homemade chinese soups.

I'm not the only one who love chinese soups, many of my friends are simply crazy about chinese soups. I'm quite sure all their mums (even those who aren't great in the kitchen) can make a few yummy chinese soups. This is because they are really not that difficult to make.

One of the reasons I created this website on homemade chinese soups is to share my experiences and what I have learnt about chinese soups. I enjoy chinese soups and hope many other people would too.

I know many people are interested in chinese food but are unfamiliar with chinese ingredients, condiments, chinese cooking tools and preparation methods such as the simmering method, the double-boiling method, and how to thicken soup.

Let me be your guide with this website.

Finding information

Let me briefly explain how this website is organized so that you can decide where you want to start.

You can browse my entire list of chinese soups recipes at soup index. All the soups are arranged alphabetically.

The left side navigation bar is also arranged alphabetically.

I have a couple of pages discussing about soups made with certain key ingredients such as beef soups, chicken soups, egg drop soups, fish soups, herbal soups, pork soups, shrimp soups, lotus root soups and vegetarian soups.

I also have pages on chinese soups that have various functions such as soups for cold and weight loss soups. Clear soups is one of the most popular healing soups for flu and cold. Drinking soups in order to lose weight is also a highly desirable slimming method.

I have also included information about the heavenly wontons and the comforting rice congee.

I hope you will find enough information about chinese soups here to starting cooking up a pot for yourself, your family or friends.
