I am sure many people tweak recipes they use to make them better or suit their personal preferences.
I have visitors asking me whether the ingredients of a particular recipe can be replaced with another. A common one is whether pork can be replaced with chicken or beef. I don't think there is a problem but I haven't done it so I can't give any recommendation. If you have done it, do share with us and spare some of my visitors the jitters.
Are you a celiac who almost always need to tweak recipes in order to remove gluten? Let me know what are some good gluten-free substitutes. I'm sure other celiacs would appreciate it. Other types of food allergy tweaks are welcomed too.
I am very bad at following recipes. Basically I am fairly absent-minded and will almost always forget to bring my shopping list out with me. As such, I seldom have all the ingredients needed in a particular dish that I want to cook. So what do I do? I substitute.
My recipes are meant to be guides and once you have mastered the basics of cooking, recipes should be tweaked and changed to suit the home chef and the people he or she is cooking for.
